Revenue Leakage Calculator

Most independent practices don’t actually know how much they lose to denied claims every month. Not because nobody cares, but because nobody has an afternoon free to dig through remits and add it up.

This takes about a minute. Enter your own numbers below and we’ll show you a rough estimate, built on your actual collections, not a generic industry claim.

The amount you actually receive from payers each month, not what you bill.

$

If you’re not sure, we’ve started this at 11.65%, the national average initial denial rate reported by HFMA, based on Kodiak Solutions data. Drag it to match your own if you know it.

11.65%

Be honest here, this is the number that matters most. Most independent practices don’t have dedicated staff to work every denial, so this is often lower than people expect.

Based on the numbers above

$0
Roughly denied per month
$0
Likely never recovered, per month
$0 is roughly what this adds up to in a year, revenue your practice earned but may never actually collect.
How we calculated this

We work backward from your monthly collections to estimate what you likely billed in total, using your denial rate. From there, we apply your recovery rate to estimate how much of the denied amount actually gets paid eventually versus written off for good.

In plain terms: Total billed = Collections ÷ (1 − (Denial rate × (1 − Recovery rate))), and the unrecovered portion is Total billed × Denial rate × (1 − Recovery rate).

This is an estimate, not an audit. It assumes a fairly even denial pattern across the year and doesn’t account for things like payer mix, timely filing losses, or write-offs you’ve already made. If you want the real number, that requires actually looking at your claims data, which is what our free audit does.

Want to see where your actual number is coming from?

This calculator gives you a rough picture. A free audit shows you the real one, which specific claims, which payers, and which coding or documentation issues are behind it, using your own billing data.

No obligation. We’ll walk through your actual claims, not just a formula.

A few honest questions

Is this number exact? +

No, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than pretend otherwise. It’s a reasonable estimate based on averages and whatever you entered above. Your real number depends on your specific payer mix, how your claims are coded, and what’s actually causing your denials, which a formula can’t know.

Where does the 11.65% come from? +

That’s the national average initial claim denial rate reported by HFMA, based on Kodiak Solutions data through late 2025. It’s a real, published benchmark, not a number we made up to make the calculator look dramatic.

What if my denial rate is lower than average? +

Then drag the slider down to your real number. A lower denial rate is good, and this tool should reflect that honestly, not inflate your number to make a sales point.

Why are you giving this away for free? +

Because most practices genuinely don’t have an easy way to see this number, and we’d rather you know it, whether or not you ever work with us. If it turns out you do want help, we’re a behavioral health, urgent care, and pain management RCM partner, and that’s what the free audit is for.
